Beta Functional Academics is a one month trial of a complete thoughtfully designed course aimed at equipping learners—especially those with special educational needs—with academic skills they can use in daily life. Instead of focusing solely on traditional academics, this course bridges the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world application.
Whether it's reading a label and checking expiry date of medicine, counting money at a shop, or understanding a daily schedule, the course helps learners develop confidence and independence through meaningful, functional activities. It's ideal for neurodiverse learners, students in inclusive education settings, and anyone who benefits from a life skills-based approach to academics.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
Recognize and read commonly used words in real-life settings (e.g., labels, signs, safety symbols)
Use basic math skills for shopping, counting change, measuring ingredients, and time-telling
Understand calendars and clocks, and use them to manage routines and schedules
Follow step-by-step instructions for daily tasks such as cooking, personal hygiene, and schoolwork
Apply academic knowledge in familiar environments such as the home, classroom, or community
Improve problem-solving and decision-making skills using functional scenarios
Students in special education or inclusive classrooms
Young neuro divergent adults preparing for vocational programs or independent living
Parents, therapists, and educators looking for structured functional learning resources
Learners with Down syndrome, autism, intellectual disabilities, or developmental delays
To benefit from this course, learners should ideally:
Be able to read simple words and short sentences
Have basic numeracy skills (counting up to 20, recognizing numbers, basic operations)
Be able to follow 1–2 step instructions (verbal or visual)
Have basic motor skills for writing or navigating a tablet/computer (with or without support)
Be able to focus on a task for at least 5–10 minutes
Have access to a supportive adult , parent or facilitator for guided tasks, if needed
